MetaMask has joined forces with Mastercard and Baanx to introduce an innovative solution that brings cryptocurrencies to everyday life. In 2025, we can look forward to a metal payment card from MetaMask that will allow users to spend cryptocurrencies directly from their wallet - and do so easily, quickly and securely, without the need for conversions or pre-loading.

What's so special about the new card?

This self-executing metal payment card is designed to enable payments directly from MetaMask wallets at millions of merchants worldwide. Unlike conventional cryptocurrencies that often require prior asset conversion, here everything is instantaneous thanks to smart contracts in Consensys' Linea blockchain. Transactions are confirmed in as little as five seconds, meaning cryptocurrencies are as easy to use as cash or credit cards.

MetaMask showcased its innovation at the ETHDenver conference earlier this year, and since then it has become one of the most anticipated projects in crypto payments. "Cryptocurrency users have long been cut off from mainstream finance," says Ale Machado, MetaMask's product manager. "Our goal is to make cryptocurrency payments as easy as tapping a button."

The card is powered by Mastercard's global payment network and uses the Linea blockchain, connecting the world of traditional payments with modern decentralized technology. CompoSecure, the company responsible for design and security, created the card's metal construction and security, while Baanx, an experienced card supplier to companies such as Ledger and 1inch, handled the development of the payment system.

For users, the key is that the assets remain in their wallets until the time of payment - no need to convert or move them to other platforms beforehand. This approach ensures maximum control and security, while payments are fast and hassle-free.

Interested parties can already sign up for the waiting list through MetaMask's official portfolio to be among the first wave to use the new cryptocurrency. With a global launch planned for the second quarter of 2025, we have a lot to look forward to - cryptocurrencies are becoming part of everyday life.
